My name is Marina Vinnik. I am a video artist and a feminist activist. I work with such topics as: representation of a woman, violence, power structures in society and images, woman’s body without male-gaze and etc.
At 21 of August I want to present my new video-project which I filmed in Russia and Ukraine and edit here in Graz. You have opportunity to watch the documentary video about people who live in Russia now and they all discuss what such term as Russia means.
What is Russian identity today? At some point it was Russian Empire that colonised Asia and Siberia. And the slavery happened in Russia too, because there were so called serfdom (unfree peasants). Than Peter the Great had his European ideals and made an attempt to create other society and other cities. Than it was Soviet Union and Second World War and after collapse of the Soviet Union and 90-th we have what we call modern Russian society. Where every one can choose random spot of Russian history to identify with. The only important thing is that this spot must be victorious and non-critical of the authority.
In my video-work you will see people who celebrate the victory day in Moscow, fields and forests, modern philosophers who talk about their views on the ongoing situation. If you are interested in history, philosophy, power structures and how identities are created - please be there. participating artists: Alexandra Gschiel
